WOODBURN, Ore. — Whitman’s Katie Zajicek shot a team-low 5-over-par 77 in helping lead the Missionary women to a second-place finish at the Northwest Conference Championship Golf Tournament at the Oregon Golf Association golf course here Sunday.
Whitman, who began the day in third after the first round, leap-frogged Whitworth as Kelly Sweeney also finished strongly with a 78, giving the Missionaries a two-day total of 662.
George Fox repeated as conference champs with a 638, finishing the season with 32 points to the Whits’ 28. Whitworth and Willamette tied for third with 21.
George Fox’s All-American Kelsey Morrison won the individual title with a two-round total of 152, following up her opening round 77 with a 75 on the second day.
Whitworth’s Emily Guthrie finished second at 160.
Zajicek’s final round vaulted her into a fifth-place tie with Willamette’s Taneesh Sra at 162, after shooting an 85 on Day 1.
Sweeney finished tied with teammate Catelyn Webber for 10th at 166.
Alyssa Maine, who shot Whitman’s low round on Day 1, equaled her first day score of 84 to finish at 168. Elaine Whaley carded a 174 to round out the Missionary lineup.
All-conference honors were handed out, and Morrison was named Golfer of the Year.
Whitman’s Sweeney was named to the all-conference first team, and Zajicek and Webber to the second team.
