WALLA WALLA — Four units at the Washington State Penitentiary were on restricted movement today following an outbreak of fighting Saturday night.
Several prisoners received minor injuries.
The four West Complex units, Delta, Echo, Fox and Golf, house about 750 close-custody inmates.
Visiting to all four units was canceled over the weekend, but is being allowed today for Delta and Echo units.
The complex was put on lockdown after multiple fights broke out about 8 p.m. Saturday night during the evening outdoor recreational period.
Shari Hall, prison spokeswoman, said that what triggered the fights was unknown this morning and an investigation was continuing.
The restricted movement plan is in effect until 9 p.m. tonight.
Inmates will remain confined to their cells with only legal phone calls allowed after approval and law library materials made available on a case-by-case basis.
