RICHLAND — Walla Walla High School cruised through its singles matchups and battled through its doubles matches Tuesday to earn a 7-0 victory over Pasco in a Mid-Columbia Conference girls tennis match.
Walla Walla’s No. 1 singles player, Allison Mehn, knocked off Brenda Robinson without dropping a game, 6-0 and 6-0, to key a rout that saw Wa-Hi’s singles players never lose more than two games in a set.
“Our singles players got us off to a really good start today,” Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. “Allison Mehn, Rachel Schueller, Hailey Lewis, and Jazmin Duran all played great tennis in their respective singles spots and earned solid points for the team.”
But the doubles matches were a more closely contested affair, with Rosa Tobin and Mari Arceo at No. 1 doubles and Danielle Thongdy and Catelyn Burttner at No. 2 each battling through three sets for the win.
“We struggled a bit to find our game in the first and second doubles,” Peck said, “But as the girls always do, they battled through the tough times and found a way to win.”
Wa-Hi next hosts Chiawana Tuesday at 3 p.m.
