WALLA WALLA — Whitman College sophomore Kelly Sweeney leads a threesome of Missionary women’s golfers who made all-Northwest Conference teams.
Sweeney earned first team honors, while teammates Katie Zajicek and Catelyn Webber were named to the second team.
Sweeney led the team in stroke average during the fall season and placed fifth at the Fall Classic before finishing third at the rain-shortened Spring Classic, firing a 78 and tied for 10th at the conference championships last weekend.
Zajicek’s fifth-place at the NWC Championships, posting a final round 77, was Whitman’s highest finish at the tournament. That followed her seventh place at the Spring Classic and a tie for 14th at the Fall Classic.
This is also the second time that Webber has been named to an all-NWC team, as she earned first-team honors last season.
After finishing eighth at the Fall Classic, the junior tied for fourth at the abbreviated Spring Classic and tied for 10th with teammate Sweeney at the conference championships.
As a team, the Missionaries finished the 2012-13 season in second place behind George Fox and could possibly receive an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships. The selection committee will make its announcement in early May.
