RRIGON — Weston-McEwen trailed Irrigon 6-4 here Saturday before center fielder Michael Guerrero and shortstop Calvin Thacker collided going for a fly ball.
Thacker was taken to the hospital with a possible concussion and Guerrero had to leave the game and did not return.
Understandably, the TigerScot wheels came unglued and Irrigon went on to take advantage of eight W-M errors and claim a 14-7 win.
The TigerScots came back behind Lance Thacker’s six-inning complete game four hitter to win the nightcap 12-2.
“We were very sluggish to open the first game,” TigerScot coach T. J. Haguewood said. “We weren’t in the game then after that (collision) happens. We had multiple errors after that.”
K. J. White led the TigerScot offense with three hits in the opener.
W-M answered with two runs in the first of the second game and led 6-0 after three. The TigerScots pounded out 12 hits to back Lance Thacker’s four-hit pitching.
“We talked between games and knew we had to get a split,” Haguewood said. “It was a frustrating day, but we really competed well in the second game.”
Jerad Croswell and Lance Thacker led the batters with three hits each. Jimmy Patrick and Justin Burke collected two hits as W-M improved to 7-2 in league.
On Friday, Grant Union, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A by the OSAA’s RPI system, limited the TigerScots to three hits and escaped with a 7-2 win.
“It was a closer game than that,” Haguewood said. “We can’t give good teams extra outs. We didn’t make several plays that we are capable of making.”
Nick Pease had two hits and Cedric Hall one in the TigerScot loss.
Pilot Rock visits Tuesday for a league battle.
