WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla High School didn’t want to give up too much information on Senior Day.
The Blue Devils defeated Chiawana, 4-2, Saturday in a preview of the first round of the Mid-Columbia district playoffs, and neither team went all-out with the playoff game already set.
The loser-out game is slated for Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Chiawana.
“It was a game where no one wanted to get an injury or give away too much information,” Wa-Hi coach Mike Washington said, “but it was fun for the seniors to enjoy their last home game.”
Wa-Hi got ahead 2-0 before the the half.
Francisco Sanchez scored on an assist by Diego Avila-Ruiz, and Avila-Ruiz also scored on a pass from Alejandro Gutierrez.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Chiawana had tied the score 2-2 before Wa-Hi rebounded to score two more.
Gerardo Gomez a goal, on an assist by Sanchez to give the Blue Devils a one-goal lead, and Sanchez scored on a pass from Ricardo Saldana for an insurance goal.
The winner of Chiawana-Wa-Hi Tuesday face the league’s No. 2 seed Saturday for a spot in regionals.
