Carl F. Selnes, Jr. was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Cicero, Ill., to Carl Orlando Selnes and Sophie Pocevic. He passed away on April 14, 2013, in Walla Walla.
Carl graduated from Downers Grove High School and then joined the Air Force in 1953. He served 20 years and retired in 1974. His term included the Korean War and Vietnam War. After retiring, Carl earned a doctorate degree from Washington State University. Carl was a teacher, author, foster parent of 18 teenagers, loving and caring husband and father.
Carl was a member of the VFW, AMVETS, DAV, Sons of Norway, ACLU, Book Club, Toastmasters, Humanists and Free Thinkers of Tri-Cities.
Carl is survived by his wife, Georgia, of Walla Walla; son Ray of Bellingham; daughters Karen of Wyoming and, Laura of Bellingham; brother, Ted of Naperville, Ill.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 16 nieces and nephews.
Please join us for a celebration of his life on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at 1629 Evergreen St., Walla Walla. A Veteran Memorial will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the City Cemetery, Veteran’s Section by the flagpole. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to AMVETS or the Blue Mountain Humane Society.
