Forest Service firewood permits go on sale


Firewood cutting permits for the Umatilla and Wallowa-Whitman National Forests will go on sale Wednesday.

Personal use firewood permits can be purchased for $5 dollars per cord, with a four-cord minimum and a 10-cord maximum on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, and a 12-cord maximum on the Umatilla National Forest.

Permits will be available at Forest Service offices and at several local vendors. Commercial firewood permits are only available at Ranger District Offices.

This year both personal and commercial use firewood cutters will now follow public usse restrictions that are in effect during certain time periods and during high fire danger

Restrictions will be announced by 6 p.m. on the day before they are to go into effect, and weekend restrictions will be announced by 6 p.m. Friday.
