Free county tire, hazardous waste collection set


BURBANK — A free tire and household hazardous waste collection event will be held here Saturday.

The collection will held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the gravel lot on West Humorist Road near the Fire District 5 station. Participants must provide proof of residency by showing a valid driver’s license or utility bill statement with an address in Walla Walla County.

Residents can dispose of up to 10 regular-size car, light truck or motorcycle tires per household. No tractor, large truck, tires over 36 inches or tires on wheels will be accepted. Tires will also not be accepted from from businesses or other non-residential sources.

People may also dispose of used motor oil, antifreeze, paint, fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, glues, solvents, batteries, and fluorescent lights at the event. The items need to be sealed in original or labeled leak-proof containers containing less than 5 gallons in volume.

The tire collection is being sponsored by the Walla Walla Joint Community Development Agency with funding assistance from the Department of Ecology. Volunteers are needed to help set up and run the event. Anyone 16 years or older is welcome and volunteer hours will be certified by organizers.
