Motorcycle ride to collect donations for Christian Aid Center

WALLA WALLA — Toilet bowls may not be inviting, but the Toilet Bowl Run is open to anyone who wishes to help out the Christian Aid Center.

On May 4, the Red and Gold Family motorcycle club will host a ride from the Milton-Freewater American Legion club, 424 N.E. Eighth Ave., to Christian Aid Center, 202 W. Birch St., Walla Walla, and on to Prescott.

The ride will officially start at 10 a.m. American Legion members will provide refreshments and hot dogs for those participating in the ride. Kickstands go up at 11 a.m. Upon riders’ arrival at the initial destination, refreshments will be served as donations are unloaded. Riders will then continue on to Prescott.

The run brings awareness to the center’s constant quest for hygiene products needed for the homeless men and families who seek shelter there. Shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, disposable diapers, toilet paper, detergent and cleaning supplies are some of the most-needed items, said Roger Sumner, a member of the Christian motorcycle club.

Donations of supplies and cash can be dropped off at the American Legion in Milton-Freewater before the ride begins. The event needs riders, donation-fetchers and other volunteers. For more information call Sumner at 301-7153.

The Christian Aid Center has a multitude of other needs, said spokeswoman Ammie Jones. Lawn and garden equipment are sought, along with volunteers who love outdoor work, she said, “as the campus is in need of beautification.”

Staff would also welcome those with life, spiritual or trade skills to volunteer as mentors to clients.

Groceries are chronically needed, Jones pointed out. Eggs, ketchup, maple syrup, cereal, mayonnaise, milk, butter, salt, pepper, white and brown sugar, peanut butter and fruit juice are always welcome.
