WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Xplosion ’98 girls fastpitch softball team started its season off with a first-place finish in the 14U-A Gold Division in the Walla Walla Sportsplex Invite last weekend.
The Xplosion started the tournament Saturday morning in pool play by beating the Tri-City Thunder, 5-3, before defeating the Couer d’Alene Northwest Wildfire, 6-1, and finishing the day with a victory over the Dayton Anarchy, 17-4.
On Sunday in the semifinals, Xplosion ’98 started with a victory over the Pendleton Young Guns, 9-3, to advance to the title game.
In the championship, Xplosion found themselves down 3-1 in the last inning against Tri-City Thunder, but battled back to tie the game and rallied in the extra inning to a 5-3 victory over the Thunder.
The Walla Walla Xplosion ’98 Team includes Selina Atkinson, Bre Birdell, Emma Case, Tara Krivoshein, Tori Martinez, Tasha Seymour, Emma Sweet, Josie Sweet, Sadie Tonn and Meghan Yenney.
The team is coached by Scott Krivoshein and Fred Sweet.
The Xplosions’ next tournament is this weekend in Richland.
