DAYTON — Columbia County Hospital District CEO Dale E. Polla resigned Thursday after a special executive session of the district’s commissioners.
Commission Chairwoman Lisa Naylor said the board was concerned about the district’s ability to implement changes that would be required by the Affordable Care Act, including health insurance exchanges, beginning in 2014.
“I’m not sure Dale was on that track, so the board felt we needed to make a management change,” she said in a phone interview this morning.
Polla had been with the district for almost a year and his contract was due to expire on Sept. 30, 2014. He has been compensated for the remainder of the time on his contract, including severance pay and vacation time.
Naylor said she was unsure of the exact amount of the contract.
The board hopes to hire a new chief executive officer in the next four to six months. Naylor said the district’s priorities are recruiting more health care providers, as well as successful implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
Until a new CEO is hired, Jon Smiley, a former hospital CEO from the Sunnyside area, will serve as interim CEO.
“We appreciate Dale’s heartfelt service to the District and wish him and his wife, Kathy, the very best,” said Naylor in a press release.
