I wish to praise the editorial page editor of the Union-Bulletin for giving space to Whitman Professor Elyse Semerdjian’s for a guest column (Aug. 2).
Contrary to the beliefs of some readers, I found Professor Semerdjian’s analysis to be well-reasoned and nuanced. My primary concern is for the well-being and safety of all religious minorities in our community, Christian and non-Christian alike.
I would hate to see the crude, blunt weapon of religious misconception used against any of them, especially international students, who are our best hope for peace in the future.
I want to commend Professor Semerdjian for her article, which inspires me to pause, think and speak as carefully as I can.
