Richard Tetrick

April 15, 1931 — Aug. 8, 2013

Richard Glen Tetrick, 72, passed away Aug. 8, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.

Dick Tetrick was born April 15, 1941, in Pomeroy, to Glen and Marjorie Tetrick. He graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1959 and graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Agronomy in 1963. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ruchert, Sept 9, 1961. After graduation they moved to the ranch in Pomeroy where they have lived for fifty years. They had a son, Wayne, and a daughter, Cindy.

He was a member of the Pomeroy Christian Church, Garfield County Fair Board, Garfield County Cattleman’s Assoc., and was a 4-H leader for many years. He was Cattleman of the year in 1980. He raised several steers for 4-H and FFA kids and always said the best steer for a beginner was a gentle Hereford.

His first love was his family and they were very important to him. He always attended most of the events they were involved in. He was a very successful farmer and was happy to turn it over to his son and grandsons so he could spend more time with his horses. He loved horses and raising colts by his stallion and mares. He especially enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids competing on them at rodeos, barrel races and team ropings. He liked to ride in the mountains rounding up cows and helping set up hunting camps. He was a fun and adventurous hunting guide at the ranch, making sure that grandkids, nephews, cousins, friends, and even strangers got their bucks.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Wayne (Paula) Tetrick; his daughter, Cindy (Berk) Davis; five grandchildren, Clay (Becky) Tetrick, Kelby Tetrick, Sarah Jones, Coby Jones, Cloe Davis; and a great-granddaughter, Kendyl Tetrick. He is also survived by his mother, Marjorie Tetrick; and sisters, Diane (Jerome) Hovrud, and Glenda (Wayne) John. He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Tetrick.

Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Pomeroy Mechant-Richarson-Brown Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Garfield County Ambulance Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 700, Pomeroy, WA 99347.
