New season coming up for Walla Walla Choral Society - Etcetera - 8/15/13


It’s a new singing season for Walla Walla Choral Society, which is seeking singers of any ability to attend its first rehearsal of the 2013-14 program year.

Auditions for the smaller, experienced Chamber Choir will be from 6-7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Jeremy Mims’ office, Room 115, Hall of Music on the Whitman College campus.

Registration will be at 6 p.m. on Aug. 26. Rehearsal will follow and is from 7-9 p.m. Monday evenings at Walla Walla University in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center off College Avenue.

Singer dues are $25 per concert, with a $10 music fee. Financial assistance is available.

Five students in the U-B circulation area gained academic honors for scholarship from Whitworth University for maintaining a grade point average of at least 3.75 during the spring semester.

The following students have been named to Whitworth’s Laureate Society: Alex Haynes, Waitsburg; Lucas Kok, Janine Loo, Krisula Reardon and Samantha Smith, all of Walla Walla.

Located in Spokane, the private liberal arts university is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. It has an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, offers 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Walla Walla Valley Lioness Club is set for the coming year with a slate of newly installed officers. Zone chairwoman Betty Holoway was on hand for the meeting at the Walla Walla Country Club.

Phyllis Whidden will serve as president; joined by Jane Samples and Frances Roth, co-vice chairwomen; Veva Hepler, secretary; Shareen Knowles, treasurer; Trudy Wells, tail twister; and Belle Washington, chaplain.

Lionesses recently honored charter member Jeanne Eiffert for her many years of service to the club by presenting her with an honorary lifetime membership.
