Former leader's comments leave wrong impression

Although the Aug. 12 U-B front page article by The Associated Press “Ore. GOP picks new leader” is accurate in stating the facts, Suzanne Gallagher’s quotes in the last two paragraphs leave an inaccurate view of the Oregon Republican Party.

It was precisely because the party was functioning and united that she decided on the face-saving move of resigning. An effective leader listens and occasionally looks back to see if anyone is following. By the time Gallagher relented to do that very few were still behind her.

To have the authority to do something does not necessarily mean it is a wise thing to do. The ORP is in good hands and on the right track.
