James B. “Jim” Rice, Walla Walla, passed away Aug. 6, 2013 at his home at the age of 59 years. Graveside services will be Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery (Elks Rest) in Walla Walla with Pastor Steve Morris officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lillie Rice Center through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862. It was Jim’s wish to have a gathering for family and friends on Aug. 19, 2013, at the Rochester Tavern, 604 W. Elm, Walla Walla. Jim was born Sept. 17, 1953, in Walla Walla, the son of Edwin T. and LaRue C. Dawson Rice. He grew up in Walla Walla, attending local schools and graduating from Walla Walla High School in 1971. He then attended Whitman College, graduating in 1975 with a bachelor degree in music. Jim then attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1979 with a master degree in library science. In his younger years, Jim worked for the Colonial Funeral Home. Later he worked part time for the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home and Alan Ray at the Colonial-DeWitt Funeral Home. After receiving his degree in library science, he worked as a librarian at Walla Walla Community College. He thoroughly enjoyed music, especially the accordion.
Jim is survived by a brother, Tom Rice of Livermore, Calif.; and numerous extended relatives and friends.
