When it comes to Pizza Hut locations, not many will be able to top the new one coming to Ninth Avenue and Rose Street.
Terry Hopkins, the chief executive officer of Emerald City Pizza, Columbia Basin Pizza Hut, Las Vegas Pizza LLC, and Spokane Valley Pizza LLC, said via email the new franchise slated for construction in Walla Walla will be “a state-of-the-art construction and one of only a few buildings of this type that will be opening in the U.S.”
A plan for the construction was discovered last week through a filing with the Walla Walla Joint Community Development Agency. But the owner could not be reached in time for the initial news report. In a follow-up email Hopkins said the new building is part of a relocation of the existing Pizza Hut at 1641 W. Rose St.
Plans for the building are still being finalized. According to the filing from Pasco-based contractor Bosch II Construction Co. Inc., the new building will be 3,897 square feet.
Longtime local residents may actually recognize Hopkins, who started with Pizza Hut in Walla Walla in 1977. He said he lived in the community about 15 years, and both of his children were born here, too. “I love the town, and we are really excited about doing this new project there,” he said.
