Feb. 17, 1935 — Aug. 15, 2013
Our mom, Virginia “Ginger” Gorsline, passed away in her home with her kids by her side on Aug. 15, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, with Pastor Sam Boettcher officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born in Ontario, Ore., to Abner and Ruth Hickey on Feb. 17, 1935. She was the youngest of four — two sisters Melva and Loree, and a brother Neal. She did most of her schooling in Helix, Ore. She was in the Honor Society and valedictorian of her graduating class.
She met the love of her life at a Texaco station in Hermiston. She told her sister the minute she laid eyes on him that he was the man she was going to marry. She married Walter “Roy” Gorsline on Dec. 3, 1953. They had five children over the next seven years. And although he passed away in 1997, he is still the love of her life. We like to think they are finally together again. She was a stay-at-home mom until we were all in school. She taught us right from wrong, that a little hard work never hurt anybody, and the true meaning of unconditional love. She could sew anything. We always had the best Halloween costumes. She planned and decorated Christmas parties for Key Technology, where she was employed for 20-plus years. (Rumor has it Key hasn’t had a Christmas party since she retired in 2001) She baked beautiful cakes that tasted even better than they looked. And she made every birthday we ever had as special as the one before, if not more so. She also painted beautiful ceramics. She took pride in her work as a homemaker, a mother and an employee. As most people know, she was an awesome lady, and she will be missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her infant daughter, Vickie Lynn; and her siblings. She is survived by her sons, Lonnie and Debby Gorsline of Vancouver, Rick and Roy “Pokey” Gorsline of College Place; and daughter Lori Satterwhite of College Place; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and the Jones kids.
