Cowboy Church to host service at fairgrounds Sept. 1

WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Valley Cowboy Church will host a community Cowboy Church from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Sept. 1 at the rodeo grandstands, Walla Walla County Fairgrounds, 363 Orchard St.

Included will be the Cowboy Church band, a cowboy poet, Gospel message, drill team and some special music.

There will be free entrance and a shuttle through Gate 2 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. An offering will be accepted.

First Presbyterian Church to begin Alpha Course Sept. 4

WALLA WALLA — The Alpha Course will be at First Presbyterian Church, 325 S. First St. beginning from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 4 and then each Wednesday through Nov. 20.

The 11-week free course is designed to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting.

Each session will include good food, laughter, and learning in an atmosphere where no question is too simple or too hostile.

People from all backgrounds, religions and viewpoints may attend.

An Alpha Course for children runs at the same time. Free child care is also available.

Organist to open First Thursday concert series

WALLA WALLA — Kraig Scott, former organist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, will open the First Thursday concert season at 12:15 p.m. Sept. 5 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 323 Catherine St.

Scott will play a program he entitled “Music to Begin.” Composers represented will be J.S. Bach, Herbert Howells, Louis Vierne and more.

Scott has chosen the Jonna Buell Memorial Scholarship for needy students to benefit from donations given by those attending the concert.

First Thursday concerts are from 12:15-12:50 p.m. the first Thursday of the month and feature a variety of ensembles and soloists throughout the year.

St. Patrick Catholic Church to host class beginning Sept. 5

WALLA WALLA — Adults who are interested in becoming Catholic, or inquiring about the Catholic faith are inivted to participate in a conversion process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

The RCIA inquiry sessions are a series of presentations including: “Revelation and Tradition,” “God the Father,” “Creation and Original Sin,” “Jesus Christ,” “The Holy Spirit,” and “The Church.”

The sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5, in the John of the Cross Room at the St. Patrick Parish Center, 408 W. Poplar St. To register for the sessions, call David Carey at 526-6933.

WALLA WALLA — Pioneer United Methodist Church will host an interdenominational study of Matthew for women at 9 a.m. Sept. 11. Children, birth through 5 may attend as space is available.
