Touchet principal to depart for teaching post in Walla Walla

TOUCHET — Touchet Secondary School Principal Elissa Tinder is leaving the district to take a special education teaching position at Pioneer Middle School in Walla Walla.

Tinder has been with the Touchet School District for five years, and also serves as the director of the district’s special education program.

Susan Bell, superintendent of Touchet schools, said today the district hasn’t decided how to best replace Tinder, and added she does not want to rush the process of hiring for such a key position.

While Tinder’s spot remains vacant, Bell will act as principal for both the elementary and secondary schools and redistribute some responsibilities to other staff members.

The district will also have to contract with its educational service district for special education services because Bell is not certified to direct the special education program.

“We’re going to make it a work-out situation and we’re going to do the very best for Touchet,” Bell said.
