George Patton, 85, of College Place passed away Aug. 21, 2013, in Walla Walla. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up in St. Louis. He served his country in the Army from 1946 to 1949. He met his future wife, Joansine Friis, on a church hayride and they were married Oct. 30, 1949, in Lompoc, Calif. He worked for the railroad for 43 years and retired in 1989.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and model railroading. He and his wife had a case of wanderlust and traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. George was also a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Walla Walla for nine years.
George is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David; and his sister, Carol. He is survived by his wife, Joansine Patton; his daughters, Debbie Coffey of Whitefish, Mont., and Susan Patton of College Place; and his son, Daniel Patton of Spokane.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens in College Place with Pastor Steve Walikonis, officiant.
