Cops to take kids on holiday shopping trip

WALLA WALLA — For the 14th year in a row, area law enforcement officers will help underprivileged families at the “Cops & Kids” shopping event on Dec. 14 at the College Place Walmart.

The event is funded with business and private donations, used take kids shopping to buy gifts for their families.

The Walla Walla Applebees restaurant will hold a fundraiser for thes event on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Local law enforcement will be waiting tables during this time and collecting “tips” to be used for the program.

Businesses or private parties wishing to donate to this year’s event can contact Walla Walla Police Officer Ascencion Castillo at 524-4394 or Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Tom Cooper at 386-1963.

The Blue Mountain Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) coordinates the annual shopping spree with the participation of many local law enforcement officers.

“With all the victims we come into contact with in our jobs and need that exists in the Valley, the feeling is priceless to be able to play Santa and help those who otherwise wouldn’t have a Christmas,” Castillo said in an announcement.
