POMEROY — Pomeroy’s boys jumped out to a 12-4 lead after the first quarter, extended it to 28-12 at halftime and cruised to a season-opening 57-34 non-league basketball victory over visiting Dayton Tuesday night.

The Pirates were led by freshman Cade Gingerich’s 15 points — including three 3-pointers — and Max Ruchert’s 12. Cole Mayfield also put up 10 points.

Zach Waggoner paced the Bulldogs with 12 points and eight rebounds, with Ben Kleck putting up seven points.

Dayton suffered 21 turnovers to Pomeroy’s 12.

“Gingerich provided the Pirates with an offensive spark and the Pirates defensive pressure forced numerous Dayton turnovers,” Pomeroy coach Brian Koller said.
