Longtime Bremerton, Wash., resident, Louise Powers, 88, died Nov. 27, 2013, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.
Born Nov. 8, 1925, in Woodson County, Kan., to Earl and Ethel (Kesterson) Davidson, Gladys Louise married Vernon E. Powers on July 4, 1941, in Erie, Kan. Following the end of World War II, they founded Powers Jewelry in the Manette business district of Bremerton. She assisted in its management from 1946 until 1995, when Vernon’s health forced him to retire and close the business. She also worked in accounting at Bremerton City Hall for 11 years, retiring as the head accountant for the water department.She moved to Walla Walla in 2013 to be closer to family.
Louise is survived by her two daughters and their families, Beth Powers and husband Timothy Brown of Walla Walla; and Verna and husband Logan Hazen of Rochester, N.Y.; and grandchildren Jennifer and Rebecca Hazen, and Emily and Daniel Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband; father; mother; brother Nelson E. Davidson; and sister Ethel Venita Davidson.
Louise was a member of the Manette Community Church and Friendship Circle, past president of American Legion Auxiliary #68, Elks and the Manette Historical Society.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Haugen and the staff at Wheatland Village and Park Manor Rehabilitation for their dedicated care. Medical and nursing staff at St. Mary Medical Center provided much appreciated support for Louise and the family.
Final care has been entrusted to Munselle Rhodes Funeral Home. A family memorial will be held in Walla Walla at Christmas time, and Louise’s ashes will be placed next to Vernon’s at Miller Woodlawn in Bremerton during the summer of 2014. Further details are available from Beth or Verna.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Powers believed strongly in the importance of education and provided their daughters and grandchildren the opportunity for higher education.
