YAKIMA — Yakima’s baseball franchise in the West Coast League now has a point man, a manager and an office, but it’s also safe to say that the team’s headquarters — in conjunction with the operation itself — is still awaiting its finishing touches.
“I am painting the office as we speak,” said Noel Zanchelli, who was announced Wednesday as director of operations of the Yakima team that begins WCL play in June in Yakima County Stadium. “My mom picked out the color scheme, which no doubt was a good thing.”
Zanchelli, once the interior work in the Shattuck Building at State Fair Park is complete, will oversee day-to-day operations of the franchise from ticket sales to concessions.
The manager is Marcus McKimmy, who next spring will begin his second season as head coach at Yakima Valley Community College after a stellar career at Selah High School, Columbia Basin College, San Jose State and Gonzaga University.
Yakima will compete in the wood-bat league for college players with 11 other franchises in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. A nickname will be announced later this month.
