Sandra “Sandy” Janet Chagnon, 71, of Othello, Wash., died Nov. 27, 2013, at the Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.
Sandy was born in Long Hanborough, Oxford, England, on Dec. 20, 1941, to Arthur and Phyllis (Trinder) Gee. She attended Bayswater High School in Oxford. After high school she worked as a bartender in a local pub while starting her college education. She found she enjoyed bartending and left school to follow that path. Sandy came to the United States in 1961 landing in Joplin, Mo., she returned to England for a short while, returning to Sumter, S.C.
Sandy then moved to Marysville, Calif., where she worked at various dinner houses and bars. There she met Albert Chagnon, they were married in 1983. Al was in the U.S. Navy until his retirement in 1990. Sandy continued her bartending career while moving up and down the California coast. In 1993 Sandy and Al moved to Walla Walla, where she worked at the Elks Lodge. She retired in 2004 and she and Al moved to Othello.
Sandy was an animal lover — cats were her first love — and she worked with cockatiels but her Pekingese puppies crept into her heart and stayed there. She was an avid flower gardener, especially roses. She belonged to the Garden Club, the Othello Eagles and Marysville and Walla Walla Elks Lodge. She will be remembered as a loving and caring person who would help anybody.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Al of Othello; her son, George Gee of Oxford, England; her daughters, Marina Zanardelli of Sacramento, Calif., Tiffany Chagnon-Rivera of Marysville, Calif., and Julie Deleon of Olivehurst, Calif.; her brother, Christian Gee of Oxford, England; a sister, Heather McCormack of Sacramento, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.
An “Evening about Sandy” has been scheduled for Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, which would have been her 72nd birthday, at the Town Hall Pub in Othello, starting at 4 p.m. and ending when the last story is told.
