Dayton downs Helix, 41-26

MILTON-FREEWATER — The Dayton boys basketball team took out Helix here Saturday 41-26 in the loser’s bracket of the Mac-Hi four-team tournament.

Dayton’s Zach Waggoner led all scorers with 12 points. Ben Kleck contributed nine points and Logan Hays had eight.

Helix’s Derek Clark scored nine points on a trio of 3-pointers to lead the Grizzlies. Dusty Bennett added nine points.

“We were in the game,” Helix coach Jeff Newston said. “At one point, were down only six points and we got into some foul trouble in the fourth quarter. We had some good shot selection, we just need to put more of them in.”

The Grizzlies lost to the Stanfield Tigers, 81-21, Friday night.

Helix (0-2) hosts Mac-Hi Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
