KENNEWICK — The Walla Walla High School wrestling team had two competitors place in the top-six at the Bob Mars Invite on Saturday.
The Blue Devils finished 15th out of the 18 teams in the tournament with 28 points. Othello won the tournament with 154 points and 10 placers. Wa-Hi’s Wil Babbit finished third in the 132-pound weight class and junior Martin Barrera came in sixth in the 138 bracket.
Babbit downed Othello’s Jerry Escamilla by pinfall in the first round before beating Kasey Johnson by decision, 6-2. Babbit fell in the semifinals to Wapato’s Daniel Espinzoa by pinfall.
Barrera opened his bracket with a loss to Riverside’s Elijah Conlon before winning his next four matches. Barrera opened the loser’s bracket by pinning Kiona-Benton’s Byron Berryhill. Barrera then beat Joseph St. George by decision, 6-2, before downing David Marquez by decision also, 4-0.
Barrera then fell in the loser’s bracket final to Spencer Vela of Moses Lake.
