WALLA WALLA — The Whitman College women’s golf team moved up three notches, from 15th to 12th, in the final Golfworld/Women’s Golf Coaches’ Association poll.
The Missionaries broke into the Top 25 last month at No. 15 in the third of four fall polls.
Washington University (St Louis), Williams College, Texas-Tyler and DePauw University rounded out the top five.
The Missionaries also climbed up in the regional rankings, determined by the NCAA Championship Committee. In the West Region, Whitman ranks No. 3 behind Texas-Tyler and Mary Hardin Baylor.
“Fall season was extremely exciting and we all saw our hard work pay off,” Whitman senior captain Catelyn Webber, whose 77 stroke average currently ranks No. 11 nationally, said.
Whitman concluded its fall season with a convincing 20-stroke victory in the NWC Fall Classic at Stone Creek Golf Club Oct. 26-27. As a result, Whitman will begin the spring season with eight points in the league standings, one ahead of the George Fox Bruins.
