Gus and Patty Kajita anniversary


Haruo “Gus” and Patty Kajita of Walla Walla celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October during a family celebration at Cannon Beach, Ore.

They married Dec. 14, 1963, in Walla Walla. Patty’s maiden name is Shinbo.

Gus worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a draftsman, engineer technician and then transferred into Walla Walla District’s initial computer section as a computer operator/programmer. He retired as chief of computer systems operations for the Walla Walla District in 1989. He is a member of Walla Walla Elks Lodge and Corps of Engineers Retired Employees. He enjoys walking, reading, solving sudoku puzzles and watching national as well as local sporting events.

Patty was a draftsperson for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until retirement in 1997. She was president of the Corps of Engineers Wives Club; a member of the Corps of Engineers Retired Employees Committee; PEO Chapter FT past recording secretary and chaplain; Class of 1955 Scholarship Committee; Walla Walla-Sasayama Sister City Committee; Pioneer United Methodist Church bereavement committee; and Walla Walla Community College Quest steering committee. She enjoys puzzles, crocheting, reading, traveling and crafts in general.

The Kajitas have two daughters, Julie of Poulsbo, Wash., and Carol of Renton, Wash.; son Mark of Walla Walla; and three grandchildren.
