Pirate wrestlers 19-13 at Potlach tounament

POTLATCH, Idaho — Pomeroy High School took eight competitors to a 10-team tournament and went 19-13 in their matches.

“The kids wrestled well for their first outing,” Pomeroy coach Brian Slaybaugh said. “We have some work to do to get ready for league action. Our team is pretty inexperienced this year, but they wrestled hard and gained some valuable experience.”

Kyle Hyer (170 pounds) led the way with a 5-0 record and first-place finish.

In the same weight class as Hyer, Taylor Lewis was 2-2, good enough for 3rd place.

JJ Killgore (126) was 3-0 and got first in the round robin C category.

Havin Heytvelt (152) posted a 2-2 record with two pins but didn’t place.

The Pirates had 12 pins in the tournament.

Pomeroy will take to the mats again on Dec. 27th and 28th in the annual Pomeroy Christmas tournament.
