I don’t know what, if any compensation Jeff Popick receives for his weekly column, but it isn’t enough.
Obviously, his knowledge of meteorology is extensive. And his vocabulary is amazing; I can’t recall the last time I read the words “heliocentric” and “felicitously” on the same page, for example.
But his prose is the main reason I look forward to the Tuesday edition. Even if I don’t always understand what he is telling us about the local weather conditions, I still greatly enjoy reading his column. Maybe it should be on the front page?
