WALLA WALLA — Police arrested a 48-year-old woman on investigation of driving while intoxicated after she struck two cars and a building, then drove off.
Tim Bennett, spokesman for the Walla Walla Police Department, said Carolyn M. Barnes was driving west on Portland Avenue on Thursday when she drove off the road and struck a parked car. Barnes backed up her 1999 Land Rover, then drove across the street into Tom’s Cycle and Power Products.
Bennett said the Land Rover went through a wall, crushing a desk. An unidentified man who was sitting at the desk left to get a cup of coffee moments before the collision, Bennett said.
Barnes then extricated her vehicle from the building and continued west on Portland, Bennett said. She was found in the 1900 block of J Street by a Walla Walla County sheriff’s deputy when her Land Rover stopped running. Bennet said her vehicle suffered severe front-end damage, and was still trailing debris.
“It took a bit to get it all written up,” Bennett said this morning, regarding the sorting out the various collisions in a police report. No injuries were reported.
