Athena Chamber of Commerce faces lack of officers

The Athena Chamber of Commerce may be discontinued in the absence of new officers for next year.

Members of the business organization will make a decision on the fate of the Chamber during a 10 a.m. meeting Thursday at the Athena Public Library.

New officers for the year have not stepped forward, according to an email announcement from Chamber Secretary Dyann Jo Swanson. Consequently members will decide whether to discontinue.

If that happens, Swanson said, the Chamber will no longer support Citizen of the Year, the annual Citywide Cleanup Day, the annual citywide yard sale, Yard of the Month, Athena Day at the Oregon State Fair in Salem, or the Christmas Lighting Contest or other community events.

Chamber members have been notified and are asked to vote at Thursday’s meeting.

If no officers come forward and members choose to discontinue the organization, a vote will be taken to determine which organizations will receive any remaining monies. For more details, call Swanson at 541-566-3876.
