YAKIMA — The DeSales boys basketball team got off to a slow start Tuesday night against Riverside Christian and never recovered. The Irish fell to the Crusaders 45-30 in the non-league contest.

The Irish got into foul trouble early in the game, forcing adjustments to the lineup.

The Irish managed just one point in the first quarter, while Riverside Christian put up nine.

The Irish put 16 on the board in the second quarter, but the Crusaders extended their lead with 18.

In the second half, the Crusaders outscored the Irish 18-10.

“We didn’t play to our expectations,” DeSales coach Allyn Griffin said. “We had some good moments and some that I’d like to forget and we’ll need to eliminate. We’ve made some good progress in many areas and with two league games this weekend we’ll have to be sharp and reduce turnovers. Dayton and Asotin are good teams and we’ll have to be ready to play.”

The Irish are home Friday for a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Dayton Bulldogs, and then head to Asotin on Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff with the Panthers.
