Walla Walla Valley wineries and partner businesses raised a record $15,000 in their Barrel Full of Money campaign for the Blue Mountain Action Council’s Food Bank. The check was presented to BMAC on Thursday in the lobby of Baker Boyer Bank.
In its third year, the campaign continues to build as one of the Food Bank’s most successful fundraisers, organizers said. All donations from the campaign are used strictly for bulk food items and perishables.
The fundraiser was a collaboration between numerous partners: Achieva Marketing, Alaska Airlines, Baker Boyer Bank, Columbia Rural Electric Association, the Downtown Walla Walla Foundation and its members, the Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center, Oak Tradition, Olive, MyColumbiaBasin.com, and the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance and its members.
Apart from sponsorship cash contributions by the steering committee members, the campaign included pledges of $5 for every wine barrel sold to Valley wineries by two large barrel manufacturers, Tonnellerie Radoux and Tonnellerie Millet. Alaska Airlines donated two round-trip airline tickets to anywhere the airline flies. The tickets, valued at $2,500, were given away as the grand prize in a raffle Thursday. The second prize will be a one-night stay at the Marcus Whitman with dinner for two at the Marc.
