WALLA WALLA — A 90-year-old woman believed to be a transient remains in critical condition after being struck Thursday by a vehicle near the intersection of Wilbur Avenue and Alder Street.
According to police, Victoria Miranda-Artiaga was walking her small dog on the north sidewalk of Wilbur around 7:49 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle driven by Brady Seeliger, 29, of Walla Walla.
Police reported Miranda-Artiaga may have lost hold of the leash to her dog and gone out into the street to retrieve her pet when she was struck.
Seeliger, who was turning onto Wilbur from Alder, said he was watching a vehicle that looked like it was going to pull out of a parking lot.
When that vehicle stopped, Seeliger said he looked back to Wilbur, which is when he struck Miranda-Artiaga, according to the report.
Police said Seeliger’s 1991 Buick Park Avenue was traveling at a slow speed and that Miranda-Artiaga’s age was a factor in the level of her injuries.
She was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center and was listed in critical condition this morning.
