CATHLAMET, Wash. — Pomeroy High School wrestler Taylor Lewis pinned a competitor and won by a pair of identical 5-2 decisions to take the Downriver Challenge tournament 170-pound title here Saturday.
“Taylor (Lewis) works hard, harder than anybody on the team and its paying off,” Pomeroy coach Brian Slaybaugh said. “He has struggled in past years but now it seems that it’s all starting to click.”
Havin Heytvelt (152) took third with a 4-1 record with a pin.
“Havin Heytvelt also did very well with a third place finish,” Slaybaugh said. “He moves well and wrestles smart, he makes very few mistakes and that’s a rare trait for a sophomore.”
JJ Kilgore (126) finished fourth by pinning two challengers and losing two matches.
As a team, the Pirates were 18-13 in their matches.
