Pioneer girls fall to Vikings

UMATILLA — The McLoughlin High girls basketball team lost to the Umatilla Vikings here Monday afternoon, 54-21.

The Pioneers struggled to convert shots into points, going just 8-for-36 from the floor and 5-of-13 from the foul line.

The Vikings established a 14-5 lead after the first period, and led 28-10 at halftime as Mac-Hi had no answers for the home team.

“We had a couple of girls with health issues, but continued to work hard throughout the game,” Pioneers coach Todd Cunnington said. “At some point, our shots will start falling and we’ll pull this together.”

Makia Carlson led Mac-Hi with 11 points, with Brittney Erb adding five.

The Pioneers, now 2-4 on the season, are slated to attend the Heppner Invite Friday and Saturday.
