Pretty in Pink, residents and staff at Wheatland Village raised funds for Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center’s Breast Cancer Fund.
Tom Vandenberg, Wheatland’s maintenance director set a donation goal and challenged those on campus by offering to go pink and bare his legs for all to see if they raised $250.
The collection started as a penny drive. Employee Ron Zigler donated a water jug penny bank he’d been saving coins in for many years, giving the fund a $177 head start, according to a release from Tamara Gordon, marketing manager.
They also held a bake sale and pie auction. Thanks to the generosity of many — and Tom’s good humor — a total of $1,005.90 was raised.
Keith Walde, Wheatland executive director, presented the proceeds to Chris Garret, the hospital’s executive director, and assistant Lindsey Oldrige during Wheatland’s Pink Celebration.
“True to his word, Tom (with his trusty tool belt) was present in head-to-toe-pink!,” Tamara said.
