Tamástslikt seeks young artists to take part in ArtWORKZ 2014

PENDLETON — Folks under the age of 19 still have time to participate in the upcoming art show and competition, ArtWORKz 2014, at Tamástslikt Cultural Institute.

Artists, both tribal and nontribal, from around the region may submit an original art object for competition.

The ArtWORKz show will be on exhibit in the Tamástslikt gallery from Jan. 16-Feb. 22.

Submissions must be received at the Tamástslikt Cultural Institute by Jan. 3. There is no entry fee. An information sheet and entry forms are available at tamastslikt.org/exhibits.cfm.

One work may be submitted for competition. The show features a sharing zone. Up to three works may be submitted for it. They won’t be judged in competition. Artists may collaborate.

All forms of art media are acceptable, including sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, glass, mixed media, photography, digital computer-generated art, fiber art and any discipline of artwork including traditional tribal work such as beadwork, weaving and parfleche painting.

The show will be judged by professional artists. Awards will be presented at an artists reception at 1 p.m. on Feb. 1.

There are three age categories: 10 and under; 11-14; and 15-18. Judging will be based on artistry, creative vision, technical merit and presentation.

Artists will compete for Grand Prize, Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit, Honorable Mentions and Best Emerging Artist. The People’s Choice award will be the result of visitor votes collected through Jan. 29.
