Harry Masatsugi Hamada, age 94, died at the Washington Odd Fellows Home on Dec. 25, 2013.

Harry was born on Jan. 4, 1919, in Kent, Wash. He was the first of eight children born to Jikichi and Hanayo Hamada. Harry farmed and went into business with his brothers at Hamada Brothers Greenhouse.

He married Myrtle O’Neita Hurst on Oct. 8, 1955. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards with his friend at the Elks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, O’Neita; three brothers, Karl, Tom and Charles; and two sisters, Alice and Margaret. He is survived by his brothers, Frank and Joe; and numerous nieces andnephews.

A private family graveside service is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice or the Tall Elks program through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. This obituary leaves me wondering if Mr. Hamada and his family were subjected to being interned in one of the camps to which even US citizens of Japanese ancestry were subjected during WWII.
