POMEROY — Pomeroy High School tied for fourth here Saturday at its own Pomeroy Christmas wrestling tournament.
J.J. Killgore (126 pounds), Havin Heytvelt (152), and Taylor Lewis (170) finished with 2-1 records to lead the Pirates. Kyle Hyer (170) and Jacob Schuh (170) each finished at 2-2 and Everett Stevenson posted one win in the 220 pound class.
Lewis’ efforts earned him a second-place finish at 170. Killgore, Heytvelt, and Stevenson each earned third-place finishes. Hyer finished fourth and Schuh took home fifth place for the Pirates.
“Taylor had a great day and finished second,” Pirate coach Brian Slaybaugh said. “His finals match came down to the wire and he almost pulled off the win in the last seconds. He should be proud as he left it all on the mat.”
Kittitas won the 13-team tournament with 159 points. Pomeroy and Colfax finished with 106 points to tie for fourth.
