Missionary women rough up Warner Pacific

WALLA WALLA — The senior trio of Sarah Anderegg, Tiffani Traver and Meghan White led the Whitman College women’s basketball team past Warner Pacific, 83-51, on Monday night at Sherwood Center.

Anderegg, who finished 9-of-15 from the floor, led the Missionaries with 21 points. Traver was not far behind, as she knocked down five 3-pointers en route to 19 points. White

finished with only four points, but it was her work down low that stood out, as she racked up 15 rebounds and four blocked shots.

With the win, No. 4 Whitman extended its perfect start to the season to nine straight victories.

The Missionaries utitlized a frenetic defense, which resulted in 21 Warner Pacific turnovers and 20 fast-break points for the Whits.

White, along with Traver, finished with three steals, which allowed the Missionaries to get up and down the floor with ease.

Whitman put the game away at the start of the second half, as the Missionaries came out of the break on a 10-0 run. Heather Johns propelled the run with a steal and a rebound resulting in two Anderegg layups and a 46-24 lead.

Whitman restricted the Knights to only 10-of-30 shooting in the second half and only 2-of-7 from the perimeter. The Missionaries, on the other hand, connected on shots at a 48 percent clip during the second frame, including nailing 4-of-8 from downtown.

Whitman grabbed its first lead at 6-4 and never looked back from there, as the Missionaries raced out to a 19-6 lead with more than 11 minutes remaining in the first half.

Johns finished with 13 points and five rebounds for the Whits.

The Missionaries turn their attention to the Northwest Conference slate, beginning with a road game at Willamette on Friday.
