Too many bonds, taxes already

Please vote “no” on the Walla Walla High School bond.

Don’t we taxpayers have too many bonds and taxes to pay for already? How much Wa-Hi bond pushing have we already had thrown at us?

Do you believe everything the school officials have told you? Senior citizens (most) cannot afford more taxes and bonds. They have to be able to eat and pay their rent and mortgages and other bills.

Let’s use our heads.

Please join me in voting “no” Wa-Hi until we can all better afford it !

Remember that citizens 61 and older who make $35,000 or less are exempt from paying for this bond. Are there folks making more than $35k who still struggle? Of course, but at least this exemption helps those who need it the most.

The concern for seniors is one thing, however, this letter loses me at "Do you believe everything the school officials have told you?" Really? It's as if school officials are bad people. In fact, school officials are there to help kids. I don't get the conspiratorial suspicion.

Mr. Phillips don't you live in College Place? I don't think you vote on this issue.

Great letter - not all of the seniors can live on $35,000 due to the enormous tax liability that we endure. I don't think that we are being told the whole story because the only word we have on the cost is from some consultant without one bid being put out yet. If your going to tell a story please don't take letters out of context and try to turn the poor school board as the victims. The victims will be the taxpayers.

The taxpayers will be the beneficiaries of quality schools and a well-educated populace. They won't be victims.

And by the way, when you speak of "the enormous tax liability that we endure," you do know that we pay less than almost every other industrialized nation and that taxes are near historic lows, don't you? (You can find evidence of this pretty easily, but here's a link you might find credible from a conservative-leaning source.) And our state taxes have remained relatively steady for the past couple of decades.

Nobody enjoys paying taxes, me included, but just saying that they are "enormous" doesn't actually make it true.

I take a broad expanse of area when I say taxes - healthcare(medical & prescriptions) - every tax that is included on power, gas, fuel and many more so don't try to get to technical. We may have low state taxes but when you get into the local taxes makes up the difference in many ways.
