Community at heart of St. Vincent de Paul

Another year is well on its way so I feel it’s time to remind you what a great community we live in and what wonderful and caring people inhabit our city. With that in mind, I would like to reiterate what all this means to us at St. Vincent de Paul of Walla Walla.

As president of St. Vincent de Paul of Walla Walla, I would be remiss to not point out to all of you just how much you have done and continue to do for us in our charitable work of assisting those in need.

Last year we helped 4,956 families stave off hunger with over 92 tons of food and another 794 families with clothing, furniture and utility help. In total the families for food and other services accounted for 15,030 individuals.

Every Christmas we also hold a gala where over 300 families sign up with us to come and get new toys for their children and food gift cards for the family along with other goodies we hand out.

The above is accomplished in large part with aid from organizations and businesses large and small in our community along with our schools, churches, banks, grocery stores and clubs such as R.I.D.E.R.S of Washington Motorcycle Club and Corvette Club of Walla Walla and, above all, you the individual.

This help is such a blessing to look forward to each and every year in our quest to help those in need in our community.

This reflection on the past year is an attempt to show all of you in our community that you are appreciated more than you know, and to let our community know that your help in fighting the intrinsic sore of poverty in our area has not gone unnoticed.

The St. Vincent crew of over 30 volunteers and myself say to all of you, “Well done Walla Walla!”
