ATHENA — Molly von Borstel scored 14 points and secured 10 rebounds to lead Weston-McEwen past Stanfield, 48-40, in Blue Mountain Conference girls basketball Saturday.
The TigerScots built a 30-23 lead through three quarters.
Stanfield heated up in the fourth, with Brittany Gregerson and Cassie Muth combining to score five 3-pointers, but the TigerScots scored 18 points in the final period to hold off the rally.
“Towards the end of the fourth we made a defensive adjustment to avoid the good looks Gregerson had been getting,” W-M coach Amber Doremus said. “The girls executed that well.
“Stanfield played well tonight. I’m proud of the adjustments the girls (W-M) made and their never-quite attitude.”
Marlene Bodmer added six points and seven boards for the TigerScots.
As a team, W-M (15-9 overall, 9-7 BMC) had eight steals and shot 41.5 percent from the field.
