Classical guitarist to perform


WALLA WALLA — Classical guitarist Michael LeFevre will play at the Fridays at Four series recital at 4 p.m. Friday in Kimball Theatre, Hunter Conservatory, Whitman College campus, 324 Boyer Ave.

LeFevre began formal classical guitar studies at 15 with George Gecik at Willoughby School of Fine Arts in Northeast Ohio.

He later studied with George Bachmann at Kent State University and Steve Novacek at Cornish College of the Arts, where he graduated with a bachelor of fine arts in music in 1992.

In 1993 he took first prize at both the Northwest Guitar Festival and Portland Guitar Festival Competitions and began teaching private lessons at Rosewood Guitar Shop in Seattle.

In 1995 he took first prize at the International Guitar Congress Competition in Corfu, Greece.

In 2001, Michael was awarded the Northwest Young Artist Award-Tour Prize from the LMC of Seattle which provided the opportunity to perform outreach concerts in smaller towns throughout Washington state.

He has performed solo at Benaroya Hall in Seattle and with various ensembles. He teaches guitar in Walla Walla.
