The Oasis, the roadhouse restaurant known for serving steak and potatoes since the days of the horse and buggy, has closed.
Owner David Beale said this morning the business will be put up for sale.
The closure comes after more than a month of scuttle about a possible closure. Beale said in early January the business had struggled but that he had no current plans to close. The return of former owner Pat Koch to help manage the business seemed to quell some of the fears.
But Monday’s service was to be the last.
Located at 85698 Highway 339, the restaurant operated for nearly 80 years in the Oregon side of the state line. Customers and former employees remember its reputation for fresh ingredients and dishes made from scratch long before the locavore movement of today’s eateries.
